After having been brought up in Hawkes Bay, Graeme left school with the intention of pursuing a farming career. He enrolled in Massey University in 1970 and completed a Diploma in Farm Management before spending the next few years running an intensive farming venture mixed together with agricultural contracting. With the realization that farm ownership was going to be difficult to attain, he moved to Auckland and a new career in Sales and Marketing.
For the next ten years he worked in sales and when the opportunity arose for him to invest in a Tauranga manufacturing company and to also work for the company as Sales and Marketing Director, he took up the offer and moved to Tauranga and it’s sought after lifestyle.
In 1993, seeking to purchase a company, Graeme approached Maurice Chaytor, the then owner of Chaytor Fences Ltd. Maurice was close to retirement and agreed to consider Graeme’s offer, if he would work for the company for a year and still feel keen at the end of that time. A year later Maurice offered Graeme a shareholding in the business and the position of Manager, and when Maurice retired in 1996 Graeme took over the business together with a partner. The partner left due to ill health and Graeme took full ownership of the business with visionary plans for it’s future.
Graeme has always valued his staff and has a genuine desire to assist his clients in gaining strong, secure boundaries for their valued properties. He takes pride in the workmanship of his company and can point out many fences and gates around both commercial and residential properties in the Bay, that have been constructed by Chaytor Fences Ltd.
He lives in Otumoetai with his partner and has two adult children and two granddaughters. Graeme loves the beach, the great outdoors, cycling, kayaking, fishing and sharing good times with family and friends
